Ivan Toney: Brentford striker not in squad because of transfer interest - manager Frank

Ivan Toney Left Out of Brentford’s Premier League Opener Amid Transfer Speculation

Brentford's star striker, Ivan Toney, was notably absent from the squad for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, fueling rumors about a potential move. Manager Thomas Frank confirmed that Toney’s omission was heavily influenced by ongoing transfer speculation, with several clubs, including some from the Saudi Pro League, reportedly interested in the England forward.

Frank told Sky Sports, “There’s a lot happening around Ivan, especially with transfers. With all the interest, we’ve decided not to include him in the squad today.”

The uncertainty surrounding Toney’s future has led many to wonder if he’s already played his final game for Brentford. Frank added, “Who knows? There’s interest, but nothing close yet.”

Toney, 28, has been a pivotal figure for the Bees, netting 67 goals in 128 appearances since joining from Peterborough United in 2020. His recent return from an eight-month suspension for breaching betting regulations only added more drama to his situation.

Former footballer Stephen Warnock commented on BBC Radio 5 Live, suggesting Brentford may be preparing to part ways with their talisman. “The fact he’s not playing today shows they’re open to offers,” Warnock said. With his contract nearing its end, Brentford might see this as their last chance to cash in.

As the transfer window heats up, fans are left wondering where Toney will land next and how Brentford will cope without their top scorer.
