Stephon Gilmore Lands Vikings Contract Worth Up to $10M After 1 Season with Cowboys

Stephon Gilmore Joins Minnesota Vikings on One-Year Deal

Veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore is set to make his mark with the Minnesota Vikings after agreeing to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million, with $7 million guaranteed, according to his agent Jason Chayut. This move follows his single-season stint with the Dallas Cowboys, where he stepped up in Trevon Diggs' absence.

Gilmore, a former Defensive Player of the Year and five-time Pro Bowler, brings invaluable experience to a Vikings defense in need of reinforcements. His 2023 campaign with the Cowboys saw him tally 68 tackles, 13 passes defended, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. Despite a torn labrum, he played in all 17 games, demonstrating his resilience.

At 33, Gilmore is no longer the dominant force he was in 2019, but he still offers strong veteran leadership. With the Vikings ranking 24th in passing yards allowed per game last season, his presence could provide the boost Minnesota needs to contend in the NFC North.

The Vikings weren’t Gilmore's only suitors; the Carolina Panthers also made an offer. However, Minnesota’s more competitive deal ultimately secured the seasoned cornerback. As the Vikings look to improve on their 7-10 season, Gilmore's addition could prove crucial in shoring up their secondary.

This signing also reflects the team's commitment to rebuilding its defense and making a playoff push. Gilmore’s arrival aligns with the Vikings' strategy to inject experience and skill into their roster, with hopes of a stronger showing in 2024
